How a lab-grown diamond is made: from carbon seed to certified parcel

A lab-grown diamond is a real diamond, and making one is a real manufacturing process. We run every stage in Surat, from the growth reactor to the packed parcel, so we can stand behind what leaves the door. Here is what actually happens to a stone between the seed and the shipment.

It starts with a seed

Every diamond begins as a thin slice of diamond, the seed. In our CVD reactors, carbon-rich gas is heated into a plasma and carbon atoms settle onto that seed, layer by layer, over days to weeks. The result is diamond rough, built atom by atom under conditions we control and log.

Planning the rough

Before a stone is cut, it is planned. We map the rough with scanning software to decide the cut, the yield and where any inclusion falls, so the finished stone lands on the grade and shape a buyer ordered rather than whatever the rough gave up by chance.

Cutting and polishing

The planned rough is laser-cut and then polished on the wheel. This is the stage that decides how a diamond returns light, and it is where a rushed job shows. Our cutters work to fixed proportion and symmetry targets, and the same targets apply to a repeat order so a collection looks the same in year three as it did on day one.

Grading and quality control

Certification is the last check, not the first. Every stone passes our internal grading against IGI standards before it is submitted for a report. Technicians inspect for inclusions, surface quality and facet precision, and stones that miss the grade are recycled rather than shipped. Growth method and any post-growth treatment are documented and disclosed on the certificate.

Packed and shipped

Graded stones are matched into the parcel the order asked for, packed with their certificates, and shipped fully insured, door to door. Because we control every stage, the documentation travels with the goods: production records, treatment disclosures and IGI reports, ready for buyers who have to show their sourcing to someone else.
